National Manufacturing Week

Reed Exhibitions has announced that National Manufacturing Week (NMW) is going to be discontinued, effective immediately.

National Manufacturing Week History

National Manufacturing Week can trace its lineage to the Australian Industrial and Engineering Exhibition (AIEE), which was the original annual exhibition for the industrial engineering sector. AIEE started the trend of having events in the alternative cities of Sydney and Melbourne in alternate years, which was continued by NMW.

All Torque Transmissions has been a big supporter of the event over the years, along with our supply partners, who have both attended and exhibited throughout its history.

Industrial Exhibitions

Globally, nothing compares to Hanover Messe, which is the jewel in the crown of industrial exhibitions. Over the years, Australia has moved towards the mining sector (specifically AIMEX) as the premiere exhibition event.

Just because the manufacturing sector’s industrial exhibition is no longer with us, it doesn’t mean that manufacturing in Australia is not still strong. There has been a change in the advertising outlook from many companies in manufacturing, and exhibitions are are the razor’s edge of this change.

2020 in Manufacturing

There is little doubt that 2020 has seen reversals in manufacturing across the board, but it is the resilience of the sector that really needs to be reflected upon. One leading indicator is the Performance of Manufacturing Index, from the Australian Industry Group.

Start to 2020 Down

The manufacturing year in Australia started with three consecutive contractions, which added with the contraction in December 2019, saw a sharp decline in output overall. April bucked the trend, mostly due to the sharp increase in demand for food and groceries. But then the slide continued.

Covid-19

Covid-19 has had the single biggest impact on manufacturing output since the Global Financial Crisis in 2008. All sectors have seen contraction of some sort since the real effects of the national lockdown started in March.

Food & Beverage

Food and beverage has been the standout in arresting the decline amidst the pandemic, with demand originally softening but now coming on strong for consecutive months.

The Challenge Now

Individual states are going through different stages of lockdown, with varied results, all impacting on aggregate demand. The federal government has invested in maintaining employment levels as best it can with the JobKeeper subsidy, which is due to end in September. The future of manufacturing in Australia is closely linked with whatever assistance is available at national level.

Warner Electric Australia

Electromagnetic Clutch / Brakes

electromagnetic clutch

Warner Electric leads the world in the design and development of electromagnetic clutch / brakes, having pioneered the technology over 70 years ago and maintaining market supremacy ever since.

The range includes IEC-fitment in-line units that extend the capability of geared units, shaft-mounted units, motor brakes and even custom-designed units that can be mounted according to individual machine requirements.

Warner’s range also includes the full spectre of control equipment.

Electromagnetic Clutch / Brakes – Electro Modules

Electro Modules are individual clutch or brake units which are assembled together to comprise a clutch. brake or clutch/brake combination.  Electro Modules can be bolted directly to a NEMA or IEC motor or reducer or they can be base mounted for stand alone operation.

Electro Modules offer the ultimate in clutch/brake convenience.  They are easy to install and require no lubrication or maintenance for life.

Function

Clutch or Brake

First determine whether the Electro Module must perform the basic function of start or stop or a combined start-stop.

Clutch / Brake Combination

A wide range of module combinations for use with motors, reducers and other standard power transmission components is available.

The flexibility of Electro Module enables you to pick the exact combination of function and design.

Selection

Power On Applications

Electro Modules for power on application are purchased as individual clutches and brakes to be assembled for C-face, flange mount or foot-mounted applications.

Power Off (Fail Safe) Applications

Fail safe operation is the primary feature of power off Electro Module brakes.  They can be used as brakes, motor brakes and in combination with clutches.

Controls

Warner Electric controls assure that maximum performance from the Electro Module system is derived.
