Gearboxes for the Food Industry

The food and beverage sector has specific requirements when it comes to power transmission equipment. Primarily, ensuring that equipment is able to withstand wash down is considered the most important. Manufacturers go about achieving increased wash down protection in a numbers of ways:

  • Full stainless steel gearboxes
  • Increased protection through coating

Full Stainless Steel Gearboxes

One of the better ways to protect equipment in a wash down environment is to make it out of stainless steel. For gearboxes, All Torque’s Maxi Hygienic range of wormboxes, inline helicals and helical bevels are all made out of 316SS, with stainless hardware such as baseplates and torque arms.

Increased Protection For Wormboxes

Bonfiglioli’s EP (Enhanced Protection) range increases protection in food industry applications by utilising a stainless steel hollow shaft, mounting hardware, oil seals, and an unvented, sealed gear case. In addition, the case itself is coated in a wash down safe epoxy paint that is designed for the food, chemical and pharmaceutical industries.

Food Industry Electric Motors

Electric motors are also a part of the total wash down environment equation. Maxi Hygienic, Baldor-ABB, and Bonfiglioli have standard options that all offer increased protection.

Gearbox Repairs Still Important

All Torque Transmissions continues to offer a gearbox repair service and in fact this side of our business continues to grow. We think that this is down to a couple of factors:

  • Turnaround times are kept to a minimum in a breakdown situation
  • Pricing is actually very competitive against the replacement cost

The breakdown turnaround time has been the major driving factor in keeping gearbox repairs viable. In many instances, replacement with a new alternative simply isn’t an option. We considered a few of the reasons why in this post last year.

Victoria and New South Wales

We offer gearbox repair services at our Braeside and Preston sites in Victoria, as well as Glendenning in New South Wales.

A Send-Off For Rob

All Torque Transmissions co-founder Robert Allan was given a very worthy send-off after announcing his retirement at the end of 2018. A stalwart of the business from the outset, Rob has been involved in all facets of the power transmission industry for a very long time.

Rob’s contribution to the success of All Torque is incalculable. Instrumental in the early and sustained growth that we experienced from our humble beginnings in Braeside, Rob helped to oversee our move to bigger and bigger premises.

Over the years, Rob was at the centre of some of our larger jobs. His power transmission knowledge was definitely a strength that Rob took pleasure in passing on to other members of the All Torque sales team, and we will continue the tradition that Rob started with Craig all those years ago.

Enjoy retirement Rob and Gail. It is well deserved and everyone at All Torque absolutely wishes you all the best for the future!
