April 2014’s Performance of Manufacturing Index (PMI) results are in, thanks to PriceWaterhouseCoopers and Australian Industry Group. Overall, the result is very poor, with a result of 44.8 representing a further 3.1 point drop from the March figure.

- Food, Beverages and Tobacco
- Petroleum, Coal, Chemical and Rubber Products
- Non-metallic Mineral Products
- Wood and Paper Products
Negative Results
- Metal Products
- Machinery and Equipment
- Textiles, Clothing, Footwear, Furniture and Other Manufacturing
- Printing and Recorded Media
Once again, exports, production, new orders and employment all contracted, whilst input prices (thanks mostly to the wage pressure exerted by other industries) have remained worryingly high. On the other side of the same die, selling prices continue to contract.
