Textile Industry Gearboxes

The textiles manufacturing industry offers various challenges to machine designers, especially in mechanical power transmission. Almost every part of the textile manufacturing process utilises gearboxes of some description.

Textile Manufacturing Process

The textile manufacturing process encompasses many individual activities:

  • Textile fibre preparation
  • Winding, spinning
  • Knitting, texturing, refining
  • Washing, drying, bleaching
  • Weft knitting
  • Finishing

In addition to the standard textile machines for spinning, knitting, and weaving, other textile preparation machinery includes:

  • Dryer impellors

Mechanical Power Transmission

Many processes in the textile manufacturing industry have a high starting torque, which must be considered in the selection of mechanical transmission components. As a result, a high proportion of gearboxes are of the planetary design, which is suited to such high loads.

Wormboxes and bevel-helical motor drives are used for the majority of applications where constant speeds and torques are the operational normal. They provide a good balance between torque capacity and price, and are used as standard equipment by textile OEMs throughout the world.
