The term ‘Wash Down’ usually refers to applications such as food processing, where electric motors are constantly exposed to an environment requiring high-pressure wash down to maintain cleanliness. Motors in these applications normally require a few special features. In the case of ‘Wash-Down’ AC units, some of these features include:
- Autophoretic autodeposition surface preparation for longer-lasting paint finish
- 300 series stainless steel motor shaft
- Glass-filled polypropylene external fan
- Four condensate drain holes in each end plate
Baldor have a complete range of motors designed for wash down duty, in both AC and DC. These include ‘Stainless Steel’, ‘Paint-Free’, ‘DirtyDutyWD’, and ‘Wash-Down’ variants. The wash down specialty motors are epoxy powder coated utilising electrostatic application both inside and out, whilst conduit boxes feature full neoprene gaskets to ensure a tight, waterproof seal.
Caustic solutions and other cleaning agents can wreak havoc with aluminium stators and cooling fans so it is normally best to avoid using aluminium motors in wash down applications.
Baldor’s range of wash down motors starts at 0.37kW and extends to 7.5kW, in both IEC foot mount and IEC flange mount. Motor speeds are all 1440 rpm.
